Smoking Cigarette is Not in Fashion

It was always believed, that one of the factors that made a huge influence on people and gave them a wish to smoke, was that cigarettes were in fashion. But today smoking is not in vogue anymore. A recent study found that teenagers are more likely to try alcohol or illegal drugs than cigarettes.

For example researchers found that American teens think that smoking tobacco products is more harmful than using illegal drugs or binge drinking.
This conception may raise the probability that they'll test with alcohol or illegal substances, the researchers added.

Pamela S. Hyde, administrator of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), said: "We are on the right track with cigarette smoking and need to keep raising awareness among teens about the dangers of other substances. Understanding that feeling of harm is a strong predictor of possible substance use among young people can help guide the growth of substance prevention messages."

Were investigated 44,979 adolescents and asked about bad habits. And at the end of investigation they found that:

• Nearly 70 percent of all respondents believed smoking one or more packs of cigarettes per day posed a major health risk;
• Only 40 percent of participants believed binge drinking (having five or more drinks of alcohol once or twice a week) posed a major health risk, and only 34.2 percent thought smoking marijuana once a month posed a major risk. Using cocaine once a month was seen as highly risky by 49.7 percent of the adolescents, while 50.9 percent believed using LSD once or twice a month was highly risky;
• Girls were more likely than boys to bind great risk with smoking one or more packs of cigarettes a day, having five or more drinks of alcohol once or twice a week, and smoking marijuana once a month;
• Boys were more likely than girls to perceive great risk from trying heroin once or twice.

Researchers explained that this study shows once again that teen cigarette smoking is down, but unfortunately the other vices continue to rise. For example, marijuana use is growing and prescription drug use remains high.
